What does it feel like to be a birthmother?
It feels like being the goat in this video

Off all the tragedies of life, surviving the loss of a child is the greatest to endure. Losing a child to adoption is no exception. Some argue that since her child is alive, the original mother is spared that grief. They think she is able to experience peace because her child is with a loving couple who would not have a family otherwise. This is a smokescreen. Walk thru the smokescreen and read what it's really like Surviving Adoption Loss from the original mom's side of the story.
That's definitely an intense way of looking at it from Birthmom's view. It does feel like we're falling constantly off a cliff when we face the challenges of adoption or even reunion.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can relate to feeling helpless like falling off a cliff. Whether it's facing challenges with adoption or even in reunion. When you hit a deadend you've feel so helpless and sad.

ReplyDeletewhen I posted this I didn't really think about it being a recurring event, but you are soo right! Losing our child was not a once and done event ... coping with it happens over and over and over again our entire life!
Yes, I agree with the helplessness too.
Yeah, that sums it up.

Deletesums it up...
never would have thought it was possible to sum it up, especially not in 23 seconds...but it did.
That's it! But I don't see a goat falling off a cliff; I see a goat getting caught by an eagle and dragged off the cliff to it's death.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Maru67 ... it wasn't carelessness that lead to the goat's tragic end. It was very intentional act on the eagle's part
